Jeannie Hsieh 謝金燕 - 姐姐 Jie Jie (Sister)

Hello hello again! Me again, me again!
As the title indicates, this post will be about...... Jiejie!

People definitely know this song. That's right, 姐姐 (Jie Jie) was the most popular song in 2013 ever since it has been released. Not only because the singer is Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕). This is also a promotional song for an online dancing game in Taiwan. More special, she composed almost the whole song herself. Amazing, huh?

Jeannie Hsieh (謝金燕) as an ambassador for the dancing online game (唯舞獨尊)
Let's talk about the singer. You definitely know her by several of her songs like 含淚跳恰恰 (Han Lei Tiao Qia Qia / Kam Lui Tiao Cha Cha), 練舞功 (Lian Wu Gong) and 嗶嗶嗶 (Beep Beep Beep). Who would have thought that she's almost 40? If you look at the music video, you would think that it's a 20-going-to-30 woman singing. Man, she's still hot and gorgeous in such an age!

I also like this song, and her other songs. But now, since I'm focusing on writing this post, I repeated this song many many times. And now I'm starting to understand what this song is about. Basically this is about 2 people in an online dancing game, the girl is older, and the younger boy is attracting her.

And this song became her hit again, along with the online game of course. Yes, she succeeded this time again! Even though her songs are mostly in Hokkien, this time, Jie Jie is in Mandarin.
And look at that number! As per today, February 21 2014, 10:27 AM GMT+7, the video hit 12,912,867 views. Nice one, Jeannie!
Below is the music video:

Now, here comes the lyrics! Dear YouTube user, sorry that I didn't ask you for permission for the lyrics translation, but I did credit you in this post! Thanks a lot for putting this up!

Enjoy the lyrics and the song!

Ka ka de dong zi dong zi dong zi dong zi
跳針跳針跳針叫我姐姐
Tiào zhēn tiào zhēn tiào zhēn jiào wǒ jiejie
Needle jumps, needle jumps, needle jumps, call me older sister.

* NOTE:
- The "跳針跳針part of this song is basically the sound of records playing, when the needle is going to be placed in the record at a gramophone..
- The "咚吱咚吱" part of this song is the sound of the beats in the music playing in the nightclub.
趴 literally means lie (lying on the floor), but based on the lyrics, 趴 is used to replace the word Dancing Par(tner) or Dancing Par(ty) which is actually suitable for continuing the word "Par". Not the "Par" word in golf, of course.
唯舞獨尊 (Wei Wu Du Zun) is the name of a dancing online game at Taiwan. The English name of this game is called "We Dancing Online". These words literally means "Dancing Forever".

Another favorite song of all time: A-Lin - 大大的擁抱 Da Da De Yong Bao

Hello hello! Another post about another of my favorite songs.

I've been in love with this song for a few months now, before I fell in love with Xiao Zhong's music. This song is still one of my super favorites songs.

At first, I knew this song not sung by the original singer herself, but is sung by Freya Lin (林凡) when she is going to answer her fifth question in a Taiwanese TV show named 百萬大歌星 (Bai Wan Da Ge Xing) a.k.a The One Million Singer, sorta like "Don't Forget The Lyrics". Below is her performance:

Since the show mentioned that the singer is A-Lin, I'm going to find her version and found it. After I found it, I downloaded the mp3 and played the song everyday. And I really did! I always play this song, along with my other favorites, whenever and wherever I go. This song is considered as new, though. It was released almost 3 years ago.

A-Lin / Huang Li Ling (黃麗玲)

大大的擁抱 (Da Da De Yong Bao) music video screenshots

According to the description in the music video on YouTube, this video is shot in Melbourne. The "Free Hugs" board represents that she wants to spread love to all people who were walking in the road that time. When she was filming this video, all people who saw that board directly hugged her. Those people didn't know her. This means, love didn't have limits, whoever and whenever.

You guys definitely want to listen to the song. Then, here it is!

I know, I said not too many because I don't really know about her. However, this one is really a piece. I really love this song.

Here are the lyrics of this song, along with pinyin and lyrics translation. Whoever did these, thank you so much!

Enjoy!

M-Girls 四個女生 - 真歡喜 Zhen Huan Xi

Yo-hoo! Me again, me again!

This is the 7th day of Chinese New Year, means, you definitely will know what this post is about.

Yes! This post will be about a Chinese New Year album, by one of my favorite groups, M-Girls / Si Ge Nv Sheng (四個女生).

As you already know, M-Girls is famous for releasing Chinese New Year albums every year. And this year, they definitely released a Chinese New Year album, again! As their fan, I definitely won't miss this album. I ordered the CD+DVD album from YesAsia, along with other bonuses.

Their newest Chinese New Year album is called "真歡喜 Zhen Huan Xi" / Zan Fun Hei, since the song 真歡喜 is in Cantonese. The album was released oin December 12, 2013, to welcome the year of the Horse.

I'll introduce the members first:

The members of the M-Girls are:
- 王雪晶 (Crystal Ong / Wang Xue Jing)
- 莊群施 (Queenzy Cheng / Zhuang Qun Shi)
- 金燕子 (Cassandra Chin / Jin Yan Zi)
- 妮妮 / 邱燕妮 (Angeline Khoo / Ni Ni / Qiu Yan Ni)

As we all know, our childhood memories are filled with their albums.
Do you still remember, when Crystal Ong (王雪晶) was little, she covered "小叮噹 Xiao Ding Dang", "我愛洗澡 Wo Ai Xi Zao", "天黑黑 Ti O O", "世上只有媽媽好 Shi Shang Zhi You Mama Hao", etc?
Do you still remember the 七仙女 (Seven Fairies) group? Six teenagers with a small kid in it? The only small kid in the group with her missing teeth is Angeline Ni Ni (妮妮).
Do you still remember when Queenzy Cheng (莊群施) was little, she covered 好兒童 (Hao Er Tong) and 賣餛飩 (Mai Hun Tun)? She often dressed as boys in her videos when she was little, for years. You can see her mostly with Crystal and Cassandra. She also made two different Chinese New Year albums without the other three members, one is with Chen Jia Ling (陳家琳), and another one is with Wei Wei (薇薇).

They're grown up now and now a member of the M-Girls group.

I guess our childhood were filled mostly with Crystal, since she was really, really famous back then. We knew each members very well now especially Crystal, but not really about Cassandra, since Cassandra started her career late than the other three members. So, you don't need to ask where the children went now. Here they are!

Here are the contents of the album:

Below is the 真歡喜 Zan Fun Hei music video:

We always enjoy their Chinese New Year album, every year, for years, until now. Of course! Everybody loves their albums, mostly people in Southeast Asia. Usually, Indonesia, of course, since I noticed it myself. Many Indonesians like to play M-Girls' albums every year. Including me! I never missed one album from the group now, though yes I missed their albums back then, but I finally catch up and bought everything else.

But who would have known that there is a rumor that this will be their final Chinese New Year album? The main reason behind this rumor is because the pirated albums of this are booming everywhere. And it's happening all the time, means, the pirated albums of M-Girls did exist every year. And pity, Indonesia is the country which produced zillions pirated copies of the album. Can you imagine? I as an Indonesian, am embarrassed with this. Indonesia is famous for the piracy and even Crystal knew and revealed about this in one of the Malaysian shows. Oh, please! This is totally embarrassing.

In my opinion, the piracy thing has a point. This is probably because the original copies are not accessible in the music stores overseas. The original copies are only sold in the country which produced the album, Malaysia. International buyers can buy the album from the site, though, but sometimes, the company ran out of copies or the site has a technical issue, so the buyers have to wait. Oddly enough, in Indonesia, even though there are many Indonesians who celebrate Chinese New Year and buying Chinese New Year albums, there are no original copies of any Chinese New Year albums in every music stores in Jakarta, where I live, even M-Girls. And if they do, they always sell the same albums every year. Which is why pirated copies may be the best solution for people but the bad thing for the artists. It's kinda frustrating, I know, but maybe this is why buying online is the only way to support M-Girls. And I did. Still though, piracy is still piracy and it will never end. Since as I mentioned above: piracy, oh piracy, and people keep on uploading to YouTube, I decided to NOT watch everything, even the trailer, until I really got a copy of this album. But still though, the pirated copies are playing everywhere I go. My eyes are watching and my ears are listening. And I'm not as excited as before when I got a copy, since everybody who sells the pirated copies "previewed" it for all the people.

I'm trying to be honest here. I'm not on the pirated side; I'm against them. I even bought two original copies of the album so I have a backup. Sometimes I bought two original copies for the other albums by them that I really like so much, and I did for this Chinese New Year album: I have TWO original copies and I STILL support the original copies. Kinda insane, but that's it, and I really did. Remember the time when the company, StarMedia, just released this album and promoted two sets of this album for preorder? The sets has CD, DVD, Swarovski bookmark, calendar, poster, and a red T-shirt with a horse drawing in it. That's right, I bought both. Believe it or not. I never did this before in my life, but yeah, I just did. I'm maintaining both the sets in my house right now! One to play in the New Year day, and one for my own collection. But this time, the reason I bought two copies is not because I really like it. I bought this because this is their newest Chinese New Year album and their bonuses are appealing. I never had those kind of merchandises in my entire life, ever. All I know is just buying the VCD or DVD each year and nothing else. Which is why, this is something new for me.

I seriously have no idea what should I say about this album. Not too good but not too bad, but I don't want to say that it's an average. This album is not as good as last year's album, 團聚 (Tuan Ju), but this album is not too bad, though I'm expecting more songs in this album. I was like, what? Only 10 songs. Oh my. At least they released an album this year than nothing at all. There are many changes in this album. Cassandra's tongue pierces, two songs written by Cassandra, the Cantonese original Chinese New Year song, widescreen-but-HD-video, the-one-take-video, the vocal skills, lyrics styles of the album, logo style, etc. But that's okay. Maybe, I like last year's album better since Cassandra returned again to the group, which is the special thing, and for two years, there is no album released by M-Girls but by San Da Huang Pai (三大皇牌).

Which reminds me again, I forgot to mention who is San Da Huang Pai (三大皇牌).
San Da Huang Pai (三大皇牌) is a group which has 3 people in it. Two of them are from the M-Girls group. 2 girls and a man. The group was made to cover since the contract of M-Girls ended on 2010. They made 2 Chinese New Year albums before the M-Girls formed again. The members are:
- 妮妮 / 邱燕妮 (Angeline Khoo / Ni Ni / Qiu Yan Ni)
王雪晶 (Crystal Ong / Wang Xue Jing)
鐘盛忠 (Nick Chung / Zhong Sheng Zhong)

San Da Huang Pai (三大皇牌) 2011 Chinese New Year album

San Da Huang Pai (三大皇牌) 2012 Chinese New Year album

I'm just hoping that they won't stop releasing albums, either Chinese New Year or pop songs. May the best luck goes to them. Let the original copies win! Don't let pirated copies defeat them! To M-Girls, don't stop. Keep on releasing albums! Your fans loved you.

Here comes the end of this post, a message from me to all readers out there:
Please, kindly support M-Girls by buying their original copies if you are a fan of the group.

So here's the post is about. Have a great day!

2 songs review: 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri) and 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui)

Hello! Happy Chinese New Year, everybody! This is my first post in the Horse Year, and this post is about...... Review again! Hope you're not bored with it! haha

This post will be about two different songs, which are 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri) and 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui), since these two songs are related.

世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri)

Many people definitely know about this song, 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri), because Jay Chou often performed this song in several of his concerts. And many people are mistaken that this is Jay's own song.

But, who would have known, that this song is actually sung by other people, NOT JAY CHOU?

Yes, the original singer of this song is NOT Jay Chou, but a 4-member boy group S.B.D.W. (咻比嘟嘩), which the members are:
  • 吳宗憲 (Jacky Wu)
  • 劉耕宏 (Will Liu)
  • 鐘昀呈 (Jason Chung) a.k.a 小鐘 (Xiao Zhong)
  • 倪子鈞 (Christopher Ni) a.k.a 小馬 (Xiao Ma)
The fact of this song is actually, yes, S.B.D.W. is the original singer, which means, Jay Chou composed this song for them. This song (and the album which has the same title as this song) was released in 1998, before Jay Chou started his singing career. This is also the fact that Jay Chou began his career as a songwriter for other singers and continued this area of work, before and after he debuted his own career in singing.

Below are the versions of Shi Jie Mo Ri (世界末日)

Jay Chou (周杰倫)'s version of Shi Jie Mo Ri (世界末日)

S.B.D.W. (咻比嘟嘩)'s original version of Shi Jie Mo Ri (世界末日)

Below is the lyrics and translation of 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri):

Song title: 世界末日

Song title pinyin: Shi Jie Mo Ri
Title meaning: The End of The World
Lyricist: Jay Chou (周杰倫)
Composer: Jay Chou (周杰倫)

想笑 來偽裝掉下的眼淚

Xiang xiao lai wei zhuang diao xia de yan lei
Want to laugh to disguise the tears that’s flowing

點點頭 承認自己會怕黑

Dian dian tou cheng ren zi ji hui pa hei
Nod my head to admit that I’m afraid of the dark

我只求 能借一點的時間來陪

Wo zhi qiu neng jie yi dian de shi jian lai pei
I only wish that you can spare some time for me

你卻連同情都不給

Ni que lian tong qing dou bu gei
But you don’t even give me the slightest sympathy

想哭 來試探自己麻痺了沒

Xiang ku lai shi tan zi ji ma bi le mei
Want to cry to see if I’m dead with out emotion yet

全世界 好像只有我疲憊

Quan shi jie hao xiang zhi you wo pi bei
It’s like in the whole world I’m the only one who’s exhausted

無所謂 反正難過就敷衍 走一回

Wu suo wei fan zheng nan guo jiu fu yan zou yi hui
Doesn't matter, because even if I’m down I can ignore my senses and just get it over and done with

但願絕望和無奈遠走高飛

Dan yuan jue wang he wu nai yuan zou gao fei
Just wish that desperation will go away

天灰灰

Tian hui hui
The sky is gray

會不會讓我忘了你是誰
Hui bu hui rang wo wang le ni shi shui
Will it make me forget who you are?

夜越黑 夢違背 難追難回味

Ye yue hei meng wei bei nan zhui nan hui wei
The darker the night, the more misbehaving my dreams, hard to remember and ponder about them

我的世界將被摧毀 也許事與願違

Wo de shi jie jiang bei cui hui ye xu shi yu yuan wei
My world is just about to be destroyed, maybe fate is against will

累不累 睡不睡 單影無人相依偎

Lei bu lei shui bu shui dan ying wu ren xiang yi wei
Tired or not, want to sleep? Alone and nobody to pair up and snuggle with

夜越黑 夢違背 有誰肯安慰

Ye yue hei meng wei bei you shui ken an wei
The darker the night, the more misbehaving my dreams, who is there to comfort me?

我的世界將被摧毀

Wo de shi jie jiang bei cui hui
My world is about to be destroyed

也許頹廢也是另一種美

Ye xu tui fei ye shi ling yi zhong mei
Maybe being blue is another sort of beauty

To be honest, I like the original more than Jay's version. Even though I am one of the Jay Chou fans, sorry to say this. I didn't mean to offend. I really wish that there is a studio version of this song. As you already know, Jay often performed this song in his concerts, without a studio version. Even though there is an album of this song, the version is the album is the live version, not a studio version. I still like the S.B.D.W version more since there are 4 different voices, instead of four voices singing the same tune.

天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui)

It's been 16 years after S.B.D.W. released this song.

And just the end of last year (2013), 2013 is the year that one of the members in S.B.D.W group, 鐘昀呈 (Jason Chung / Zhong Yun Cheng) a.k.a 小鐘 (Xiao Zhong), released his first solo album. As a tribute to S.B.D.W. group, he wrote and composed a continuous song of the group's famous hit, 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri).
According to Xiao Zhong himself, this song is the continuous song of the song 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri), since because of "Shi Jie Mo Ri", people will know about the S.B.D.W. group and him. They released an album before the 世界末日 ("Shi Jie Mo Ri") song, but the first album is not as successful as this album, so the song "Shi Jie Mo Ri" became S.B.D.W's popular hit, which is why for him, the song "Shi Jie Mo Ri" brings too many memories.
As I mentioned above, the song was released in 1998. And 15 years later, a continuous version of the 世界末日 song was released by one of the members.
For shooting the music video, Xiao Zhong even wore the same outfit as the group's outfit for the "Shi Jie Mo Ri" video. Gee, still fit after 15 years, huh?

小鐘 Xiao Zhong's personal YouTube channel thumbnail

That's right! The song name is: 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui), which is, "Gray Day" in English.

This song is the album's second single, after 分開的結果 (Fen Kai De Jie Guo), and is included as the last song in the album.
The music video for this song was up in his YouTube account on 16th of January 2014, recently, but Xiao Zhong accidentally deleted the video and re-uploaded the video again yesterday (February 11, 2014).
You can see Xiao Zhong walking at the beach, sitting on a chair and holding a bulb. He mentioned in his recent Facebook post that the bulb refers to 吳宗憲 (Jacky Wu). Jacky Wu brought him into this career. Because of Jacky, people know Xiao Zhong until now. The time when they spent time and worked together will always be missed, as he said in his Facebook page.

天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui) music video

My analysis about this song are:

  • One, this song is sung in G-major key, if you noticed, and it's the same key as the original version of 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri).
  • Two, if you also noticed, the chorus of both songs are started with 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui), and Xiao Zhong sung these three words at the same notes.
  • The line 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri) is also appeared in the 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui) song, and vice versa.
  • No wonder that this song, 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui) is the continuous song of 世界末日 (Shi Jie Mo Ri). You can also notice that Xiao Zhong often blended these two songs together in his live performances. Blending the songs together is not a bad idea!

This song is also one of the best songs by him, so far, I would say, though I wish he recorded his own solo version of the "Shi Jie Mo Ri" song. It's still unbelievable that he made the "Shi Jie Mo Ri" song alive again by composing this song. He nailed it, especially that he sang the higher notes without a falsetto. Like, seriously. He seriously did it! He nailed it!
This song is definitely a sad song, if you notice the lyrics. As the song title indicates, don't know if it will rain or not, the sky is gray already. If it's raining today, I'll definitely play this song, to make it perfect. And I did! haha.

As the ending of this post, here is the lyrics of 天灰灰 (Tian Hui Hui) (Gray Day). I attempted to translate the lyrics myself, with a little help of one of my internet buddies. Enjoy!

Song title: 天灰灰

Song title pinyin: Tiān Huī Huī

Lyricist:鐘昀呈 (小鐘)
Composer:鐘昀呈 (小鐘)

是不是世界末日

Shì bùshì shìjiè mòrì
Is this the end of the world?

因為你不在我懷裡

Yīnwèi nǐ bùzài wǒ huái li
Because you are no longer in my arms.

想雙手擁抱你的回憶

Xiǎng shuāng shǒu yǒngbào nǐ de huíyì
I want to reach out and embrace your memories

你卻用微笑來掩飾心情

Nǐ què yòng wéixiào lái yǎnshì xīnqíng
but you cover up your feelings with a smile.

你傳給我的訊息 是傷感最後的證據

Nǐ chuán gěi wǒ de xùnxí shì shānggǎn zuìhòu de zhèngjù
The message that you sent me is a sad final testimony.

感受不到你的氣息 只有一個人孤伶伶

Gǎnshòu bù dào nǐ de qìxí zhǐyǒu yīgèrén gū ling ling
I can't feel your breath. I am alone.

天灰灰 你會不會 孤單的夜 找誰來陪

Tiān huī huī nǐ huì bù huì gūdān de yè zhǎo shuí lái péi
In this gray day, will you find somebody to accompany you on this lonely night?

遙望遙遠的星空

Yáowàng yáoyuǎn de xīngkōng
Looking at the distant stars.

或許放棄是最美的祝福

Huòxǔ fàngqì shì zuìměi de zhùfú
Perhaps to give up is the most beautiful blessing

累不累 我真的累倒數計時的每一天

Lèi bù lèi wǒ zhēn de lèi dàoshǔ jìshí de měi yītiān
Are you tired? I am really tired of counting down everyday.

走過熱戀的一切

Zǒuguò rèliàn de yīqiè
Through everything in love,

原來末日一直存在我的心田

Yuánlái mòrì yīzhí cúnzài wǒ de xīntián
In fact, the end has always been in my heart.
